Vision Care for Older Adults

Baylake Bank Premier Club is sponsoring an informational program on “VISION CARE FOR OLDER ADULTS” to be held at the Baylake Bank Conference Center, 222 N. 3rd Ave., Sturgeon Bay, WI on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 1:30-2:30 P.M. Participants can identify information about vision conditions that may affect older adults, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as the effects that diabetes and hypertension have on the eyes. Program presenter will be Dr. Paul Filar, owner of Peninsula Vision Care, (formerly Dr. Richard Wiesner’s office) on the Westside of Sturgeon Bay.

Dr. Filar attended St. Norbert College for four years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then attended Pacific University’s College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, for an additional four years, and completed his doctorate degree.

Dr. Filar is the current president of the Northeast Wisconsin Optometric Society. As the president of this organization, Dr. Filar sits on the board of the statewide Wisconsin Optometric Association.

His presentation will include important information about vision conditions that may affect older adults. He will talk about normal changes to the eyes due to time, such as dry eyes, cataracts, and presbyopia. Additionally Dr. Filar will discuss other eye diseases that need to be closely monitored, such as glaucoma, and macular degeneration, as well as the effects that diabetes and hypertension have on the eyes. He will talk about the importance of nutrition and vision, and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
