Final site plans for the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival in downtown
Green Bay July 27-31 have been given the green light by the American Sail
Training Association (ASTA). ASTA is the organization behind the Tall
Ships Challenge® where the ships race from port
to port.
ASTA Race Director Jonathan Harley was in Green Bay Thursday, April 20 and
told Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt the site plans are good to go
for the festival.
“The City and Port of Green Bay have done an outstanding job of preparing
for the Tall Ships this summer,” said Harley. “It’s going to be a great
atmosphere for a great festival.” Harley notes it’s impressive that Green
Bay’s festival will have nearly the same number of ships that Chicago will
have for its festival the following weekend.
The Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival will bring 14 tall ships to the Port
of Green Bay and it’s possible more ships will choose to visit. The
festival, complete with ship tours, entertainment and food, is expected to
draw 50,000 people from a five-state region. It’s estimated 700 volunteers
will be needed. Go to
