Green Bay
Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival
Providence, a square topsail sloop, is the latest and perhaps the most famous ship coming to the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival in downtown Green Bay July 27-31, 2006.

Providence has a key role in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". The ship and her able crew sailed to Alabama so the ship could be painted for her role. The captain and crew then sailed her to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for filming of the movie, which is scheduled to be released this July.

Providence is a replica of one of the first ships of the American Navy. Built as a merchant ship in the 1760s, she went on to become the first command of John Paul Jones and one of the most successful American ships to fight in the Revolutionary War.

Seven ships, including Providence, have been confirmed for the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival so far. The other 6 are Highlander Sea, Unicorn, Royaliste, Barque Picton Castle, Pride of Baltimore II and U.S. Brig Niagara. A total of 10-13 ships are planned for the festival.

H.M.S. Bounty was one of the first ships announced for the festival, but now will be unable to come due to maintenance issues during that time period. H.M.S. Bounty also has a role in the upcoming Disney movie.

Green Bay is the first and only city in the state to host a Tall Ships® event of this size and scope. It is expected to draw 50,000 people from a five-state region, and an estimated 500-600 volunteers will be needed. Volunteer and festival information can be found at www.greenbaytallship.com.

The Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival is a cooperative effort of Downtown Green Bay, Inc., Packer Country Visitor and Convention Bureau, Port of Green Bay and City of Green Bay. Special thanks to major event supporters Baylake Bank, AT&T and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation.
