Organizers of the Baylake Bank Tall Ship Festival
are pleased to announce another three ships have
signed on for the international event coming to
downtown Green Bay July 27-31, 2006. That brings
the total to 7 ships announced so far. A total of
10-13 ships are expected for the festival. The
latest ships to be added:
Barque Picton Castle – a traditionally
rigged and operated sail training ship. She is a
strong, 284-ton seaworthy home afloat for young
adventurers devoted to learning the art of
deep-water seafaring. She calls the Cook Islands
home, which consist of 15 islands in the South
Pacific, and brings an international flair to the
festival.
Pride of Baltimore II – is a top-sail
schooner built to the lines of an 1812-era
Baltimore Clipper. Part of her mission is to
provide a unique education platform through
onboard activities and the Internet for American
history and marine sciences. She maintains an
international sailing schedule.
U.S. Brig Niagara – was built in 1988 as a
reconstruction of the warship aboard which Oliver
Hazard Perry won the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813
during the War of 1812. Her mission includes
interpreting War of 1812 history and her crew must
be willing to live under frugal conditions.
H.M.S. Bounty, Highlander Sea, Unicorn and
Royaliste were the first four ships announced.
Additional ships for the Baylake Tall Ship
Festival will be announced as they are signed on
over the next several weeks. The Festival is
expected to draw 50,000 people from a five-state
region.
Green Bay is the first and only city in the state
to host a Tall Ships
®
event of this size and scope. It is estimated
500-600 volunteers will be needed. Volunteer and
festival information can be found at
